And the answer is.........

YES. She would love to go. It gets even better than that. Not only would she love to go, but I happened to ask a friend that happens to have a husband that is a complete sweetheart. He cashed in his Hilt0n Points for us so we are in midtown Manhattan in a suite at the D0uble Tree on Times Squ@are and it will not cost one penny. (I didn't have an inkling that this was going to happen and frankly neither did she till she was talking to him about the adventure and he offered his points....I am either going to have to sleep with him or make him a cheesecake.) Can I tell you how freaking excited I am???!!! We ended up ditching the package deal after spending some time at the computer comparing places and prices. I got a roundtrip flight for 140 bucks so this is the cheapest getaway ever, well, at least till I get there and my debit card will be smokin. We leave our nearby airport at 6 AM for the hour and a half flight to LGA arriving early enough to spend the entire day doing what we want. Nothing makes me crazier than shooting a whole day traveling. Departure date--August 1. Any of you that have any little NYC gems you want to share PLEASE DO. I am going to stalk a couple of you that live in the NYC area via email and see if you can tell me where to go (please, nobody tell me hell, I have been there, and it wasn't pretty, and it is a post that I will make someday that will be controversial--but I don't want that to bring me down so back to the topic at hand). We will not be concentrating on typical tourist, Empire State, Statue of Liberty etc. In fact she doesn't even want to go to ground zero, and since I have been there 6 times, I am willing to forgo that on this trip. Ironically, the only person having a hard time with me going is S3. He was visibly upset and quite vocal about it too. In his mind, here is his mom who canceled the family vacation and now she is jetting off for a weekend WITHOUT the family. I had to explain that a $2500 beach trip was a tad different than a $500-$600 trip. I also tried to explain how sometimes women need to be with other women and since I am surrounded by testosterone this is a rare and exciting occurrence. He is 14 and didn't buy any of it. I refuse to let him rain on my excitement though. I have a really large umbrella, and it is up, and will be up till August 1. Someday he will get it then feel guilty and buy me chocolate to apologize. I just hope I still have teeth by then. I'm going to New York. Somebody pinch me.

Let's hope he doesn't like cheesecake. ;-)

Have a great time!

"Somebody pinch me."
Take a ride on the subway; you'll get pinched, fondled, grabbed, groped and rubbed against. Enjoy!

Lucky!!!! No fair! I'm sure you guys are having lots of fun...I can't believe how you lucked out on that hotel. I'm think you're definitely going to have to sleep with your freinds husband...I'm surprised he didn't already put that into a clause or something. ;)

Ok, ok. Eat at Morandi. It's fabulous Italian! Also, John's Pizza (several locations) is the best pizza, like, evuh! The ordeal to get to the Statue of Liberty is quite an ordeal, so think it through. Hours and hours (same with Empire State Building). It's never a dull moment checking out all the floors of Saks on 5th Ave, you know. We stayed at the Marriott Marquis, which is right by your hotel. Times Square is open all night long, so just walking around there is so much fun! Lunch at the top of Barney's is a great view, excellent people stalking, I mean watching, not too pricey.
Please try to get in SOME trouble, K?

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYYYYAYAYAY!!!! Oh, I am so excited for you - and jealous! DH has occasionally brought up NYC as a business trip destination that I could tag along but it has never worked out - thank you recession, grrr. Anyways, I went to acting school there years ago and when I lived in Toronto I would go there for weekends and see Broadway shows and go to museums. I miss it so much. I think it's the Paris of the United States and people there have accents too!

I suggest a cheesecake for the generous hubby with the hotel points, the other thing might get you into trouble.

Tough luck S3, mummy needs a holiday!

Hurrah! Go to Macy's Herald Square and ride the old timey wooden elevators. My in-laws just did a 3 hour food tasting walking tour in the Village that they loved (I'm sure your google-fu can turn up the detailed). The High Line park has just opened and you should definitely check it out. You can even take a picnic from food you buy at Chelsea Market which is nearby.

If you want to do cocktails, go to the Vanderbuilt Apartment in Grand Central Terminal. I've never been, but I hear it's swanky and fun. NYC Restaurant Week will be over by the time you get here, but check to see which restaurants will be extending the deals. (Again, make with the google.)

If you can, eat at the 21 Club. They do a lunch prix fixe which includes their famous burgers. It's a very old NY kind of place. And Jean-Georges has a less expensive restaurant called Nougatine that also has a lunch prix fixe.

Oh, and if you visit Bloomingdale's & Saks 5th Avenue and feel faint from the sticker shock, there's an H&M a block or 2 uptown from Saks.

Have fun!

It must be cool to go to NYC with a friend. I always have fun when I travel with friends. It is more fun than family vacations.
