ARE YOU ONE OF 4055?

At a gas station in Minocqua Wisconson an employee accidentally changed the price of gas from $3.299 to 32.9 cents before closing up for the night. People using a credit card at the pump after the station was closed were treated to an early Christmas present. AOL polled people if they would go ahead and buy the gas, knowing that most probably it was someones error. So far 29634 people answered and 4055 said no. I would like to meet those people and see what makes them tick. I am an honest person (note previous post about my stupid desk lamp) but if I were to be truthful...I would have to say that I would fill up my tank, all 22 gallons of it, spending $7.26 instead of $72.57, and probably call my kids to fill theirs up too. I am honest but not stupid. But....if I found out that the employee was forced to pay the difference, I would cough up the dough to help him/her cover the loss----on the other hand if it was some oil exec that would feel the pennies shift in his pocket then honesty be damned and pump away. The bastards.

I'm with you. Honestly, I would fill my tank and call everyone I knew. BUT, if I found out that the kid who screwed up the price had to pay for it themselves, I would be the first to go back and pay the difference. BUT hell, can you honestly tell me people would drive by? BULLS**T. :)

You are both better than me! ;)
I'd fill up my tank, have my husband and friends fill up theirs.... and there's no way I'm forking over the money later because the worker made a mistake. That's part of having a job, making sure you do it right. Honestly though, it's very unlikely the worker would have to pay the difference - part of running a business is taking responsibility for the actions of your employees when working at your business. I'm all for us normal, hard-working people benefiting while big business gets the shaft now and then.

I do wonder though if the company would try to go back and charge people the difference since they used credit cards. That certainly wouldn't be the first time a company has made an error in pricing and instead of honoring it, as they should, making you pay the higher price.

hmm...what would I do? I most likely would just drive by and not notice the error in price. I dont scope out the lowest gas prices, I just fill up at where ever I am when the car goes to empty. I know, not good planning on my part. But if I did fill up and found out that the employee had to pay the difference I would go back and pay my fair share. Can you imagine how his christmas would be ruined by having to pay the difference on his gas station pay?

Yeah I'd fill up, but come to think of it I would give'em back the money if the employee had to pay it out of their pocket. Oh the guilt.

I'd fill up my tank and then feel really guilty about it...if i did find out the person would have to pay out of pocket then i'd pay him back, plus a bag of homemade cookies....and my husband would just make fun of me for feeling so bad....(wow, is it obvious I had a Catholic mother?)

Chances are that person's been fired aready. (Am I a cynic or what?)

But, I would have filled up if I had noticed gas at that price and been looking for the "you're on candid camera" guy the whole time!

:) Hee hee! I would fill up my tank and probably find some of those portable gas containers and fill them up, too. I would NEVER do it at the expense of the employees, but at the expense of the oil company - no problem! :)
